Apple will be releasing it’s iPad 2 tomorrow around 5PM, and I for one will be geekishly waiting in line starting in the next few hours. I believe I will be waiting at The Domain Apple Store location. There has been a rumor going around all day about Apple opening up a pop-up apple store in the center of downtown Austin TX (at the corner of Congress and 6th St – The Scarbrough Building).
I took some time to stop by the location today, and noticed that all of the windows on the first floor of the building were covered with black vinyle. I walked around the building a bit to see if I could take a peak. The windows were unfortunately very well covered. Although I was able to take a peak through one of the windows facing 6th street, and noticed a lot of construction. I did not see the typical Apple demo tables. Honestly I didn’t see much of anything other than construction equipment.
One thing that I found interesting was that, just after snapping a pretty horrible picture of the front side of the building, a security guard and a man asked me what I was taking pictures of. I told them about the rumors going around the internet, and all they had to say was “interesting…”. I then started walking back towards my car, and the man that was chatting with the cop, walked in the same direction. The man turned to me and said, “I am working in their”. I attempted to get some info from the gentleman, but all he had to say was “I have no idea what your talking about”, he smiled, then walked into the building…
Horrible picture, I know… As you can see, the windows are ver well covered.
I must say, the Scarbrough building would be a perfect location for an Apple store. The location couldn’t be any more perfect, and the building is surrounded by glass and looks like a perfect place to showcase Apple’s shiny products. I for one am hoping this will be more than a temporary Apple store.
