Pictured above is Kevin Diaz who has been number 1 in line for the iPad 2 since the break of 4:30am. The iPad 2 will be released at 5PM this evening.
It has been an hour since I have been waiting here and Kevin has been interviewed by 3 or 4 seperate people from various media companys about his number one spot in line in addition to posing for 16 photos with fans and signing 12 autographs. I as well am waiting in line outside of the Apple store at the Domain in Austin, TX. I arrived at 11:30am. It’s warming up and all the people here are super friendly. The sound of smooth jazz can be heard in the background which brings a little bit of that California smugness to the atmosphere. Apple employees have been generously walking by with free beverages and umbrellas to block out the blinding sun. I spoke with a few apple enthusiasts next to me in line who regularly attend the long wait on release day to be one of the first owners of the new products. They have been sharing there previous experiences of waiting in line to get their products. I think I am 19th in line as well as the 19th person in line who owns an iPad and an iPhone. There is not much to do here since the line isn’t moving. Several people are sporting Mac laptops or trying to watch video from the LCD screens of there iDevices which is difficult to view even with the brightness at max. And thats about it, this has been one of my more productive days off.
